Lerch, Bates & Associates Ltd.: IT Manager. -         - from  November ’00
Working as EMEA IT Manager, it is my responsibility to oversee the running of all IT, including telecoms, for the EMEA Offices and their 40 users in London, Manchester, Stirling, Bristol, Paris, Dusseldorf, and Dubai. My responsibilities include;

Management: Management of all aspects of the department, from IT placement students to budgeting and management reports.
Network Administration:
Design, implementation (inc. procurement) and management of all office and mobile IT services for 40 users, including 35 workstations, 7 laptops, and 10 servers (Windows 2000, XP and 2003) across 6 European sites and the Dubai office.
Webmaster:
Management of the corporate website. (inc. full remote working capability to the associates within the company.)
DBA: Design, implementation & maintenance of critical databases (including systems for Marks & Spencer).
LAN/WAN: Implementation & support of corporate Intranet / Extranet.
Misc: Training, procurement, project management, fire marshalling.
Projects;
- Planning and execution of move of all above systems from separate rooms of a shared office to a new dedicated facility 20 miles away.
- Design and project manage the move from paper based systems to a fully online, internationally available, web based business system.
- Engineer, cost and implement move from a workstation environment to a laptop based approach for all users.
- Research, design and implement remote working facilities for all users using latest VPN technologies and systems.
- Setup of new satellite offices, in the UK and internationally, including specification and implementation of all required facilities.
- Meet with and draw up strategy for integration with management team of AAA (Americas, Asia and Africa) operation.
- Design, implementation and management of the corporate website.

Alongside my main responsibilities within Lerch, Bates & Associates Ltd. (above) I also hold the position of IT Manager within this company, and as such I have the following day-to-day / project related responsibilities;

Network Administration: Implementation & support of corporate Intranet / Extranet. (inc. procurement / management of 8 workstations, 3 laptops and 4 servers (1 x Windows NT, 2 x Windows 2000 and 1x Red Hat Linux AS 2.1).
Misc: Supervision of 1 TCS associate, and 7 MSc project students. Design and commissioning of business cards. Managing relationships with various clients (Including Marks & Spencer, HSBC, Hilton, Canary Wharf, etc)
Projects:
- Design, project management, implementation & maintenance of cutting edge Oracle 9(i) / Sun Solaris clustered database web application. (Responsible specifically for the design, implementation and maintenance of the infrastructure and platform).
- Design, project management, testing and on-site support of innovative touch screen Linux 'site terminal' device.

As well as programming in a number of languages, the degree looked in depth at project management methodologies, and covered Data Communications, Database Systems, Electronics (Logic) and Mathematics. The two most relevant aspects of the course were;

E92 Plus Ltd.: Support Executive / Consultant.               - June ’98 to September ’99
The Industrial Placement for my degree was spent at E92 Plus, a leading supplier of Enterprise Security and Connectivity Software, with clients ranging from the M.O.D. to NTL. Due to the small number of employees, my responsibilities included;

Webmaster - Day to day administration of corporate Web / FTP site.
Consultant - Meeting with / advising corporate clients on current technologies.
Support - Providing telephone / on-site support for all company products.
DBA - Design, implementation & maintenance of critical Access Database.
LAN/WAN – Implementation and support of corporate Intranet.
Misc. - Design of the corporate CD-ROM and staff training (on and off site). 

2. Dissertation: (Final / 4th Year)
‘Design and Implementation of a Web Enabled Database System’
For my dissertation I chose to create a commercial grade database system, which was fully accessible from the Internet. For this project I received a 2:1 grading.

Reading: Tolkien, Asimov, Pratchett, and Hawking, along with a number of science books and journals.
Writing: A number of fiction projects, poetry, song, drama and family history documents.
Travel: I spent seven years of my childhood in Chile and a further 2 years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
